This is a very old picture of my grandmother Margarita (sitting and dressed in black) and her four daughters: my mother Paula on the left, my aunt Valentina, my aunt María, and my aunt Carmen, the youngest and the only one who is still alive. My mother was the oldest and I do not know how old she was here, but am guessing she might have been 19 or 20, so the picture dates from the late thirties, as my mother was born in 1917.
I set the photo on a piece of purple suede and then on a Japanese fabric with very tiny flowers in taupe color. It seemed to me that the fabric was very appropriate, as it is very feminine and subtle. I embellished it with lace in both white and beige colors, and a very beautiful white agate with some orangeish shade. I gave this to my niece Natalia, who came from France to Madrid, so we could see each other after several years.

Portraits - Retratos

In this picture, my sister and I were in the coast of Roda de Bará, a small village in Tarragona, Spain. It was October of 2009, I believe. The idea of framing photos with fabric has been in my head for a long time, but everything has to fall into place at the right moment. The picture is on a piece of suede, then the fabric. I embellished it with embroidery thread in orange and turquoise and a couple of mother of pearl discs. I enjoyed making it for my sister's birthday this year, and I gave it to her in my last visit to Spain this April.
