I said I was going to tweak this blog. What I was actually trying to do was find a way to sell my stuff here. I found it to be very difficult and time consuming, so decided to go on a different way: create my own online store. I am in the process, it is also a learning experience, but here is the result. Dije que iba a retocar este blog. Lo que en realidad estaba intentando era encontrar la manera de vender mis cosas aquí. Lo encontré muy difícil y había que emplear mucho tiempo, así que decidí tomar un camino diferente: crear my propia tienda online. Estoy en ello, es un aprendizaje también, pero aquí está el resultado. Changes - Cambios

I started researching a little on this blogging thing, because I would like to improve this blog and make it serve my needs. As always, when I decide to learn about any subject, a whole world opens up before my eyes, and the vastness of my lack of knowledge humbles me. At the same time, my endless curiosity takes me to wandering on those new paths I never walked before. There are so many things to see and learn out there! 

So, be alert about these changes, and leave me a comment if you have anything to say.

He empezado a investigar en esto del blogueo, porque me gustaría mejorar este blog y hacer que sirva a mis necesidades. Como siempre, cuando decido aprender acerca de cualquier cosa, un mundo entero se abre ante mis ojos, y la vastedad de mi desconocimiento me humilla. Al mismo tiempo, mi curiosidad sin fin me lleva a vagar por esas nuevas sendas que nunca había andado. ¡Hay tantas cosas que ver y aprender!

Así pues, estad alerta a estos cambios, y dejadme un comentario si tenéis algo que decir.

Ornament

Back to Rapid City a week ago.
Today, I got the Creative Cue from Three Creative Studios. I started reading their blog some time ago, but have never sent anything.
The creative cue for today is "ornament", and as I am helplessly attached to the computer, working with the call center, I started drawing what came to my mind about ornament. Pretty quick, Mother Nature gave me the perfect ornament: Gustavo and his buddies on our crab apple tree.
So here they are, defying balance in both physical and aesthetic senses.
After all, who says that ornaments need to be smaller than the object they adorn?

Madrid

Estoy en Madrid, ahora mismo en casa de Marga, que casi no puede hablar (pero habla, como siempre, por los codos).
Hemos pasado el día juntas, un día estupendo. Hace una temperatura que no parece, desde luego, de otoño, sino más bien de primavera o incluso verano. Sin embargo, veo a mucha gente con el abrigo puesto. Pobrecillos, no saben lo que es el frío.
He paseado por el centro de Madrid, la Plaza de España, la Gran Vía, la calle de la Princesa..., todos esos lugares siempre atestados de gente que va y viene no se sabe adónde.
Hemos comido en Los Angeles, un restaurante en Argüelles. De primero, unos judiones con morcilla para chuparse los dedos. De segundo, yo, que soy una floja, me he tomado una fritura andaluza. Marga, con más voluntad, se ha zampado un codillo a la gallega. De postre, flan. Flan con pan, naturalmente.

A postcard - Una postal

Yesterday, I received this postcard from the N.E.W. Quilt Show Board, thanking La Antigua for participating in the Quilt Show in Gillette, WY. They say "It helped to make it a big success."
I want to thank them publicly for this nice reward, I feel appreciated.
The postcard itself features "Mosaic Stars", quilted circa 1930, from the collection of Thomas K. Woodard, American Antiques and Quilts, according to the information in the back.
It is a beautiful quilt, and it gives us the opportunity to further research this collection and all there is about it.
My most sincere gratitude to you, kind ladies of the N.E.W. Quilt Guild!

Cooling Down - Refrescando

Yesterday, we saw the sandhills flying South. They crossed right over our house, what a beautiful sight! And we could also hear them. If they are leaving, winter will not be far.
These days, I am working on a project that was started some time ago, but did not find its way out until now. I will take it with me to Spain, so family and friends can see it. I am liking it. I will post some pictures when it is finished.
For this project, I made some sort of design wall with a piece of expanded polystyrene and a piece of flannel. Although it is a little too small, it worked for me. Now, I am in the process of making a BIG design wall, 8x8 foot.
In a couple of weeks, I will be in Spain.

Ayer vimos a las grullas volando hacia el Sur. Cruzaron justo por encima de casa, ¡qué bonita vista! Y podíamos oírlas también. Si ellas se marchan, el invierno no estará lejos.
Estos días estoy trabajando en una labor que se empezó hace algún tiempo, pero que no había encontrado su salida hasta ahora. Me la llevaré a España, para que la vean la familia y los amigos. Me está gustando. Pondré algunas fotos cuando esté terminada.
Para esta labor, hice una especie de tablero de diseño con un trozo de porexpan y un trozo de franela. Aunque es un poco pequeño, me ha servido. Ahora estoy en el proceso de hacer un tablero de diseño GRANDE, 2,40 por 2,40 metros.
En un par de semanas estaré en España.

Eilen Jewell "Sea Of Tears"

I was reading the Spanish newspaper today, and there was something about this singer, Eilen Jewell, who I had never listened to before. I like her, and I very much like this song, so I thought I better share this with everybody. For those of you who are in Spain, she will be in concert over there this month. N.E.W. Quilt Show

What a wonderful time we had in Gillette, Wyoming!
The North East Wyoming Quilt Show gathered over 200 quilts, a great deal of talent over there. I specially liked the raffle quilt, "Moroccan Tile", with very subtle colors, calm and quiet, very beautiful. I also liked the ribbons: each one had a tile like the ones in the quilt, very nice idea.
We met a lot of people, and I saw many others that I had already met before at different quilt events. I have to apologize publicly because I cannot remember all the names, but I sure do remember the faces. I had met some of those ladies at the Black Hills Quilt Show in Rapid City, and one of them, Marva, talked to Bobbie about me, so she invited me to participate in this event. Thank you, Marva and Bobbie.
Marva also introduced me to Diana, the Northeast Regional Director of the Wyoming State Quilt Guild, who invited me to do a presentation of Texture Magic for the ladies attending Diana's classes next door. Thank you, Diana, for your interest, and for this opportunity to reach all these quilters.
For the first time, I included thread and fabric in my booth. I had some cotton batiks and rayon batiks from Bali, and also my beloved African fabrics, which drew a lot of attention because they are not so commonly seen.
We also had our jams and preserves, not very usual at quilt shows either.
We would like to repeat this great experience next year.
A final note: what is the expression I most hear when I show how Texture Magic works?
"I'll be darned!"
